The meaning of Joseph is - He will add
Genesis 49:22
"Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine near a spring,
whose branches climb over a wall.
Who told these words?
Why did they tell these words?
When did they say?
BTW who is this Joseph?
Who are his parents?
Where was he born?
Where was he blessed?
Joseph is the eldest son of Jacob and Rachel
Jacob had 12 children and Joseph is the 11th child
By then Jacob might be 90 or 91 years old.
Jacob worked for his uncle for 7+7=14years to get Rachel as his wife
How much Jacob loved Rachel, we can see in this story
Genesis 30:1
She said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I'll die!"
Rachel tells these words to Jacob as she is in deep pain and anguish that she doesn't have children for a very long time
Rachel was so worried that she was infertile and she started irritating her husband for children
Genesis 30:22
Then God remembered Rachel; he listened to her and enabled her to conceive
She prayed to God and God listened to her and enabled her to conceive
A very well known verse for us
Psalms 127:3
Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him
Yes Children are heritage and reward from Lord
Genesis 30:23-24
23. She became pregnant, gave birth to a son, and said, "God has taken away my disgrace."
24. She named him Joseph, and said, "May the Lord add to me another son."
Here we can observe Hope that God will bless me with another son, so she named her son Joseph
We already learnt in the beginning that the meaning of Joseph is He will add
We can see her trust in her son that he will add on
Joseph was born in Paddan-Aram

Joseph did not include in bad deeds with his brothers (Genesis 37:1-4)
Psalms 5:4
With you, evil people are not welcome
- Joseph is seventeen years old, young man
- He was loved by his father
- His father made an ornate robe for him
- His brothers hated him and could not speak a kind word to him
Joseph is blessed with Vision(Auspicious sight) Power (Genesis 37:5-11)
- Joseph had a dream
- He shared about them with his brothers
- Because of those dreams and about what he said his brothers hated him more and they were jealous
- But his father kept the matter in his mind
- Joseph dreams - He dreamt about how he is going to be blessed in the future days; He dreamt about his future when he was just 17 years old
- He shared with brothers without hiding
- We can see his innocence, sincerity, truthfulness
Obeying his father's word headed to give food to his brothers (Genesis 37:12-17)
- Here we can see three places
a) Hebron b) Shechem c) Dothan
a) Hebron - The biblical meaning of Hebron is Society; Friendship
- Hebron is a Palestine city on the southern west bank, 30Km south of Jerusalem
- Jacob told Joseph to give food to his brothers and check their well and bring word back to him
- Joseph found that his brothers are in Schechem so he has gone through the Valley of Hebron
b) Shechem - The meaning of Shechem is Shoulder
- Shechem stood in the valley between
- Genesis 12:6-7
Shechem is the place where God appeared to Abraham and blessed him
- Joseph travelled crossing hills, valleys to give food to his brothers leaving his father's home
- But the jealous brothers moved to Dothan from Shechem
c) Dothan - The biblical meaning of Dothan is The law, custom
- If you observe these are the hills where Elijah has ascended in a chariot of fire
Joseph's brothers plotted to kill him (Genesis 37:18-20)
- Joseph's brothers plotted to kill Joseph
- They said that let's kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him
- They planned to destroy his future saying we'll see what comes of his dreams
Joseph was sold (Genesis 37:21-36)
- As Reuben advice his brothers, they threw him into a cistern
- In the absence of Reuben they sold Joseph to Ishmaelites who are Midianite merchants for twenty shekels of silver
- They stripped him of his robe-the ornate robe he was wearing
- They slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood and took the ornate robe back to their father and showed him it as evidence
- They framed it as some ferocious animal has devoured him
- They showed it to their father and made him believe it
- Joseph lost his mother at a very young age, now he was separated from his father who loved him, and also from his brother Benjamin
- The Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard
- At a young age, a seventeen old teenager who did not join in the bad deeds of his brothers, who was faithful and loyal is facing these many troubles, how much he might have struggled right?
So dear Amigos, when we are truthful and loyal even we sometimes face troubles, but what happens to Joseph we will learn in the next episodes so stay tuned for it
